Caitlind Brown

Caitlind Brown: Cloud:

Calgary-based artist and filmmaker Caitlind Brown created this wonderful large-scale light installation/sculpture titled Cloud, exhibited a few nights ago at this year’s Nuit Blanche in Calgary. Made with more than 5,000 reappropriated domestic light bulbs (only one in every six bulbs actually needs to glow), in addition to compact fluorescent bulbs and chain pull strings, Cloud invites viewers to wander through a rain of pull strings switching lights on and off. When audiences activate the Cloud‘s inner sphere of light bulbs it creates the illusion of lightning on the cloud’s surface.

Jefta, 24 years old, mixer of his passion for photography, painting and digital art. His work is essentially based on the body by the insertion of different textures or image dressing.

The project “Body Lighting” a simple idea. Basically an overexposure of images over bodies to be dressed up by the light. It is done the same way body painting dresses up with paintings. This project is the result of playing with the human body shape and how the lightning looks over it. The image reacts to the body with disproportions, lights and shadows, and many other effects linked to the point of view.

Simon Husslein

Nest One by Simon Husslein

Looking more than a little miraculous, rays of colored lights pour forth from the branches of a tree. The project, entitled Nest One, is an installation by German-born artist Simon Huslein, who describes it as a woven sphere glowing at sunset, with changing colors that symbolize new life planted into a dying tree.

Incredible Reflected Lights by Yayoi Kusama

In honor of her eightieth birthday, Gagosian Gallery organized a showing of artist Yayoi Kusama’s work, including ‘Aftermath of Obliteration of Eternity’. This mixed media installation is an ‘infinity room’ with all surfaces covered in mirrors, multiplying hanging lights so that they seem to go on forever and ever.

Fluorescent tubes may not make for the most attractive lighting, but when clustered into abstract, chaotic groups, they’re totally enchanting. Artist Hitoshi Kuriyamahung hangs groups of them from the ceilings of galleries and exhibition spaces, with broken pieces of those tubes that didn’t survive installation littering the floor below.

Chinese artist Ko Siu Lan created these fluorescent installations at Galerie Paris in Beijing for a spring 2011 show entitled ‘Don’t Ask Me Why.’ The lights spelled sayings like “Wood Free” and “No Thinking”.
